Program Duration

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Board of Trustees authorized the Pipeline, Profession & Practice: Community-Based Dental Education program in 2001. By 2002, RWJF selected 11 dental schools through a competitive application process to receive funding for a 5-year period. The California Endowment joined the grant program in 2003 and funded 4 California dental schools through 2007.

The second phase of the Dental Pipeline program began in 2007. Currently, 13 of the 55 accredited U.S. dental schools participate in Round 2 of this program. Eight of these schools are funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for a 27-month period, and the remaining 5 schools are supported by The California Endowment through 2010.
